Knauf Insulation, Inc. (Knauf), a leading family-owned global manufacturer of building materials, has been awarded the Global Innovation Award from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) for its Performance+® fiberglass insulation.
This prestigious award recognizes the most cutting-edge, advanced and original products, services, buildings and communities from around the world. The award was presented at the NAHB National Sales and Marketing Awards gala, known as “The Nationals”, held during the NAHB International Builders’ Show.
Hear from Tim Cofran, Senior Manager of Customer Experience, and Linda McGovern, VP of Marketing and Customer Experience, as they share what this recognition means for Knauf and the industry.
“This incredible honor underscores our commitment to setting a higher standard for fiberglass insulation and supporting healthier living environments,” said Linda McGovern, VP of Marketing and Customer Experience at Knauf North America. “We’re proud to introduce insulation solutions that not only enhance energy efficiency but also contribute to the well-being of occupants and installers.”
In today’s world, indoor air quality is of critical concern. Studies show that Americans spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, where pollutant concentrations can be two to five times higher than outdoor levels. Knauf’s Performance+ fiberglass insulation line is an innovative solution designed to directly address these issues. It is formaldehyde-free, extremely low in volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and Certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly®.
The certification process, conducted by Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), includes rigorous testing for:
- Dust and small fiber emissions in real-life scenarios to ensure limited human exposure to airborne irritants like dust and fibers
- VOC emissions, monitored over 14 days, with special focus on the first 24 hours when emissions peak
- Mold resistance, tested under high-temperature and humidity conditions to prevent mold growth
- Constituents used in the fiberglass insulation to ensure that there are no allergenic or sensitizing chemicals present, or that their concentration is low enough to warrant no concern for sensitive individuals
“The Nationals honor the best in the new-home sales and marketing sectors, as well as 55-plus housing and global innovation,” said the 2024 NSMC Awards and Recognition Subcommittee Chair Tiffany George. “The winners exemplify excellence and creativity, are forward thinking and set the standard for our industry.”
